Meet and Greet Rear Admiral John Okon

Camillus native and United States Navy Rear Admiral John Okon will be visiting his hometown, Syracuse and Albany from September 23 to October 1 as part of the Navy’s outreach Executive Engagement Visit program. Rear Admiral Okon works in the Pentagon on the staff of the Navy’s Chief of Naval Operations as the Director, Information Warfare Integration Directorate. He is also the Navy’s Senior Meteorologist and Oceanographer.
In this role, he manages a yearly budget of approximately $9 Billion as the resource sponsor for Navy’s Information Warfare programs, ensuring Navy and Joint Forces are prepared to defend our nation in the areas of Communications, Networks, Intelligence, Oceanography, Meteorology, Precise Time, Cryptology, Electronic Warfare, Cyberspace Operations, and Space.
While in New York, he will be visiting local schools, accompanying veterans on the Honor Flight, and speaking with community leadership and civic groups to talk about his career in the Navy, his journey as a native of Camillus, and the importance of the nation’s sea service to areas like Camillus, Syracuse and Albany.
Okon is a graduate of West Genesee High School and afterward attended SUNY Maritime at Fort Schuyler, Bronx, NY. He holds master’s degrees in Meteorology and Physical Oceanography from the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA, and in National Security Studies from the Naval War College in Newport, RI.
